Why did you guys move and why did it take three days to move 20 miles? PDF Print E-mail

About six months prior to writing this, I'm sure those of you who are regulars began to notice certain problems cropping up.  Out of nowhere things suddenly seemed a little more laggy,  you found yourself getting disconnected or you couldn't log in. Teleports would constantly fail and as I personally began to experience, at certain times of the day you couldn't stay connected for longer then a minute.  These were the tell tale signs of a huge networking problem, all of which began to manifest shortly after our datacenter provider announced that they were "sold out" of space and they were cancelling their contract with a major internet carrier.

In short they were warning us of a rough period ahead, however assured us that it would be temporary and only last a few weeks.  A few weeks mind you, that turned into a six month period of total hell for all of us.  After reporting several of our issues to their network administrator, we were given a myriad of excuses from "Oh, we were performing router maintenance." to "Oh, we're sorry.  Provider X was having some problems."  Different excuses each time for the same set of symptoms with no resolution in sight.  In other words, we had no choice but to either suffer the consequences of their horridly overloaded network  or move to a new datacenter.

This was a choice that we certainly couldn't take lightly, but for the sake of everyone's sanity and piece of mind we decided to move.  After a bit of research we were able to find a new datacenter in the same area as the old - roughly 20 miles away, who offered a far superior level of service and were due to open up a brand new expansion to their facility.  They were connected to all of the major carriers, offered an affordable price, had a good reputation, and as well the emails we received from their representatives didn't resemble a badly written note you'd typically find stuffed into your high school locker.

So, we found a keeper and made our arrangements to move in.  The only problem was that we had to wait until their new expansion was completed and ready to accept our equipment - which took about a month and a half, but was well worth the wait now that we're back online and virtually all of the issues that we had been experiencing have quite literally vanished.  But now, the answer to the question that I'm sure all of you have been asking.  "How on earth does it take three days to move something a total of 20 miles?"

The answer is simple enough.  Our equipment sat on their loading dock for two days because the mythical UPS man, who never misses a pick-up - apparently missed a pick-up.  Twice.  *GASP of disbelief*

Hello there,
we are sorry, but the UPS driver failed to show up in past 2 days, he should be finally coming today. We are very sorry for the delay..

Thank You,
